Observations From Behind Bars

Motorcyclists have a semi-self-inflicted reputation for being , among other things, hard drinkers. We’ve  help maintaining that rep from the media,  beginning with this photo (reputed to be the finest product of the journalistic arts).

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against folks  having a good time or hitting top dead center on a bar stool, now and again; I’ve been there, done that , and have the paper trail to prove it.  That’s not what defines us, though.

Take the Wilsons, for instance.  That scoot they are pictured on was no bar hopper.

Bill and Lois W.

Having neither home nor car, they traveled  eastern parts of our great land on three wheels, sleeping in borrowed beds, barns and tents. Though they had little, they were inspired people who helped to bring hope to those who had no hope.

Trust me,  I know these things, I took a class.

Bill Wilson’s side car motorcycle looks very much like a pre 1925 Harley Davidson with factory sidecar. Most likely it was a 1924
74 cubic inch model painted olive drab with red trim. They only came in one color in those days. It featured stick shift, no rear suspension, spring forks and no front brake. (WikiAnswers)
